What happens when I make my application?
Your decision
We will give you a date when you can return to collect your visa decision. Please don’t contact us before this date. Only the applicant will be allowed entry to the Embassy to collect a decision. If you have applied as a family group one person may collect all the passports with written permission from other members of the group. Please bring photographic ID when you come to collect your decision.
Checking your visa
Please check your visa when you receive it. Make sure your personal details are correct, that it allows you to travel when you want to and that it is for the purpose for which you want to come to the UK. You can ask for it to be post-dated for up to three months, if you do not intend to travel immediately.
What if I am refused a visa?
Four out of five applicants worldwide receive the visa that they have applied for. If you are refused a visa, you will receive a written notice explaining why. To ensure that we have made a fair decision, in accordance with the Immigration Rules, an entry clearance manager reviews every refusal within 24 hours and normally in advance of it being served.
In some cases, you will have the right of appeal against the decision. At the time that your visa is refused, you will be told if you have the right of appeal, and if so will be given advice on how to appeal.
If you have been previously refused a visa, you may make another application at any time, but if the reasons for your refusal still apply, you may be refused again.
