Visas for the UK

Where can I get information?

You can find out whether you need a visa and how to apply on the UK Border Agency website.

Where can I get advice?

The British Embassy and its staff cannot give you advice on how to complete your application, or what type of visa you should apply for. If you need help with your application or advice about the UK's immigration rules and requirements, you should seek advice from a qualified immigration adviser.  In the UK these are immigration advisers regulated by the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner or legally qualified professionals regulated by designated professional bodies. Their websites are:

How do I submit my application?

All visa applications must be made on-line. One appointment per person is required, and one application form must be completed for each applicant, including children.

We are aware that some unscrupulous organisations are blocking visa appointments so that they can provide appointments for their own customers. Unfortunately this is preventing genuine applicants from booking appointments at a convenient date. We do not charge a fee for appointments and have made no arrangements with any agencies for them to do so. If you are charged a fee for booking an appointment, please email Visa Enquiries

You should submit your application and your biometric fingerscans at the Visa Section of the British Embassy in Tehran. You must attend in person in order to submit your fingerscans (children under the age of 5 need not attend).

Supporting documents for all applications should be originals and must be translated into English. If documents are not originals or translated into English, applications may be refused.

Please note: Visa Officers are now authorised to refuse entry clearance for up to 10 years to anybody providing false documents or information with their applications. This ruling is being strictly enforced and document verification is being undertaken.

Visa application fees are charged at the point of making an application. Visa fees are processing fees, and are not refundable if visas are refused.

All original documents will be returned once a decision has been made but copies and translations will be retained.

Tehran Visa Section is busy and appointments do fill up quickly. Please plan ahead to avoid disappointment.

Who decides whether I will get a visa?

UK Border Agency staff will process and decide your visa application.
